By dissolving the boundary between social and physical science we are exploring the human dimensions of global change. Our goal is to better understand the Earth's land surface and the way humans interact with it.

Patterns of Coastal Flooding
Dr. Kasischke is working with Drs. Kearney and Sun to develop new approaches to use satellite imagery to analyze the impacts of sea-level rise on coastal vegetation communities.
Fire Mapping Team
The GOFC/GOLD-Fire Program makes use of fire products from satellites for fire management, policy decision-making, and global change research.
Coastal Marsh Loss
This research aims to assess changes in coastal marshes due to the rapid rates of sea level rise that have characterized the last decade.
Biomass Burning
In this project a change detection algorithm has been developed to make spatially explicit maps of burned areas.
