By dissolving the boundary between social and physical science we are exploring the human dimensions of global change. Our goal is to better understand the Earth's land surface and the way humans interact with it.

In this project a change detection algorithm has been developed to make spatially explicit maps of burned areas.
Amazon Deforestation
Coarse resolution MODIS satellite data is used to efficiently monitor deforestation. This research aims to improve operational monitoring in the Amazon basin.
